Yen Duong is a freelance math and science writer based in Charlotte, N.C., where she raises three children. Her clients have included The Simons Foundation, Duke University, UNC Greensboro, UNC Charlotte, Harvard University, and the American Statistical Association. She has been a staff writer for North Carolina Health News and spent a fellowship summer at the Raleigh News & Observer.

She received her Ph.D. in mathematics from University of Illinois at Chicago, a B.S. in mathematics from University of California Santa Barbara, and a B.A. in mathematics and philosophy from Yale University. Along the way, she founded two regional conferences for women in mathematics, and was also a Mass Media Fellow with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, and a participant in the Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education program.
