What arithmetic patterns can always be found in sets of natural numbers having a positive density? In recent work with Kra, Moreira and Richter it was shown using ergodic theory that positive density sets of natural numbers always contain the sum of any finite number of infinite sets. In this talk I will describe the ideas and techniques of our proof, and share some problems in this area that are still open.
