Dice Design Contest Details

The Department of Mathematics is looking for a design for each of the sides of a 6 sided dice, which in the following we reference as side 1 to side 6.

  1. Each design should have some meaning for our department, UNCG, or an area of mathematics and statistics
  2. You may submit a design for one or several sides
  3. On the design of side n, the number n should be recognizable.  For example side 4 could have 4 dots, the four letters ‘UNCG’, the roman numeral IV, the ternary number 11, or a square on it.   Not all of these clearly satisfy 1. though.
  4. The area of each side is a circle with diameter 16 units
  5. The design should be a monochrome line drawing
  6. The minimum width of each line is 1 units
  7. The minimum distance between two lines needs to be at least 1.5 units.
  8. Submit the design for each side as an image with a resolution of at least 300 x 300 pixels in png or jpeg format.

Example: it would be possible to put the MAT 112 alien with each pixel measuring 2 x 2 units on a side of the dice.

Submit your designs to Maya at m_chhetr@uncg.edu by September 10.

From all submission, the undergraduate studies committee will select one design for each of the sides and present the designs at the Mix and Math Pizza party on September 16.  Each of the up to 6 winners will get a prize and some dice (once they go into production).
