NSF awarded a grant for $9,000 to support the 2019 UNCG Summer School in Computational Number Theory workshop. Congratulations to Brett Tangedal, Talia Fernós, Sebastian Pauli, Dan Yasaki, and Filip Saidak.
The Department was involved in hosting four excellent REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) programs, namely, Math-Bio REU, Statistics REU, NREUP (National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program), and Number Theory REU at Elon University. The UNCG Summer School in Computational Number Theory was held May 28-June 1, 2018. There were 26 participants who attended the workshop from various universities. Thanks go to Dan Yasaki, Sebastian Pauli, Filip Saidak, and Brett Tangedal for organizing a successful workshop.
The Department successfully hosted its Fourth Quantitative Methodology Series on May 7 & 9, 2018. There were 69 participants over 2 days of 4 workshops. Thanks go to Scott Richter, Sat Gupta, and Matt Jester for organizing a successful workshop.

Wei Chen (Vivian) successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation titled “Spectral Estimation for Random Processes with Stationary Increments” on Monday, March 12, 2018. Vivian was advised by Haimeng Zhang.
Sat Gupta and Tom Lewis have been chosen by the College of Arts and Sciences to receive 2018 Teaching Excellence Awards. Sat will receive the Senior Teaching Excellence Award and Tom will receive the Junior (Tenure-Track) Teaching Excellence Award.
