Katelyn Young Joins the Department
We welcome Ms. Katelyn Young to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Katelyn earned a B.S. in Marketing and Business Management from Appalachian State University. We are very excited to have her join our Department!
Tracey Howell and Haimeng Zhang receive Teaching Excellence Awards
Tracey Howell and Haimeng Zhang have been chosen by the College of Arts and Sciences to receive 2019 Teaching Excellence Awards. These awards will be presented to them at the Dean’s End of Year Celebration event on May 6th at 2 p.m.
Haley Childers accepted a new position in the Office of Research and Engagement

Carri Richter accepts University Program Associate position
February 18, 2019: Carri (Richter) has accepted the University Program Associate position in our Department (Haley’s old position) starting February 18, 2019. For the past two years, Carri provided outstanding service to the Department as the Administrative Support Associate. She was the recipient of the CAS Staff Excellence Award.
Office of Research & Engagement awards grants to Jianping Sun and Xiaoli Gao
Office of Research & Engagement has awarded Jianping Sun a New Faculty Grant ($5000), and Xiaoli Gao (jointly with Jing Deng in Computer Science) a Regular Faculty Grant ($10,000). Congratulations to both Jianping and Xiaoli.
Austin Lawson defends his Ph.D. dissertation
Austin Lawson successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled, “On the preservation of coarse properties over products and on persistence curves”. Austin was advised by Greg Bell. Congratulations to both Austin and Greg.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics hosted the 14th Annual UNCG Regional Mathematics and Statistics Conference (RMSC) on November 3, 2018.
