organizations and clubs
Participating in student organizations and clubs is a fantastic way to enrich your college experience and boost your resume. These activities provide valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills, network with peers and professionals, and gain practical experience in your field of interest. By getting involved, you can showcase your commitment, teamwork, and initiative to future employers, making your resume stand out in a competitive job market.info here
Student organizations & clubs
The department has several student clubs and organizations. All of these groups are constantly seeking people to help with their activities. You will get opportunities to attend special events on campus, especially in the department.
For questions about a specific student organization/club, email the faculty advisor listed or email mathstats@uncg.edu.

UNCG Math Club
Join us to explore the beauty of mathematics beyond the classroom. Whether your passionate about problem-solving, interested in math related careers or just want to improve your skills, the Math Club is the place for you!
The goal of the club is to carve out some time and space for math enthusiasts to come together and enjoy all things math related. The Math Club also regularly participates in the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is a mathematics competition for undergraduate students in the United States and Canada. You can find the problems from past Putnam competitions in the Putnam Archive.

UNCG American Statistical Association (ASA) Student Chapter

UNCG ASA student chapters provide opportunities for students to connect with other students interested in statistics and interact with prominent statisticians locally and at national meetings. They also encourage students to continue studying statistics and provide career information in the statistical sciences. There are no scholastic requirements, and students need not be statistics majors. All students are welcome and encouraged to get involved.

UNCG Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM)

Part of the purpose of the (AWM) Association for Women in Mathematics is to encourage women toward mathematical careers. We share information about resources, such as scholarships, mentoring, and workshops available to us as women in mathematics through AWM and other organizations. The other part is to promote equal treatment of women and other underrepresented minorities in mathematical sciences, and to discuss some of the subtle ways that inequality may appear in academia and other professional careers. In the future, we plan to ask visiting mathematicians to share their perspective and advice for us as we move toward professional careers, as well as programmatic meetings to discuss issues pertaining to women and minorities in mathematics, see the UNCG AWM student chapter bylaws.

Professional Societies
The Mathematics & Statistics Department is a participating member of multiple professional societies.
UNCG is an IMA participating institution

UNCG joined the NSF funded Institute for Mathematics and its Applications at the University of Minnesota as a participating institution member.
Founded in 1982, the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) is an NSF-funded visitors’ institute that has grown to become among the most influential math institutes in the world. Located on the University of Minnesota campus, it is one of eight NSF Mathematical Sciences Research Institutes. The IMA aims to achieve synergy between mathematics and its applications, develop transformative mathematical research through interdisciplinary exploration, strengthen and broaden the workforce that confronts pressing challenges facing science and society, and effectively communicate the role of mathematics in our world. The IMA utilizes many strategies and mechanisms to realize these goals, from its annual thematic program to hot topics workshops to seminars and public lectures. The IMA is a vital component of the mathematical sciences infrastructure in the United States, and contributes to and advances the health, prosperity, and security of the nation.
For more information, kindly see: http://www.ima.umn.edu/. Via the institutional membership, UNCG faculty and students have greater opportunities to participate in IMA activities. For more information, kindly contact Ratnasingham Shivaji, H.Barton Excellence Professor, Department of Mathematics & Statistics (email: r_shivaj@uncg.edu).
