Graduate Program Director’s Welcome

Ratnasingham Shivaji

Welcome to the Graduate Studies webpage for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.  I invite you to explore this site to learn what our programs, department, and the university have to offer.  Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns or would like to schedule a visit to campus.  We offer an MS in Applied Statistics.

Our department has a diverse faculty who are actively engaged in world-class research in mathematics and statistics. Major areas of research include Combinatorics, Control Theory, Differential Equations, Geometric Group Theory, Mathematical Biology, Number Theory, Numerical Analysis, Topological Data Analysis, Experimental Design in Statistics, Nonparametric and Robust Methods, Sampling, Spatial Statistics, and Statistical Genetics.

We have a robust seminar and colloquium schedule.  For many years we have also hosted the Helen Barton Lecture Series in Computational Mathematics and Helen Barton Lecture Series in Mathematical Sciences, which bring leading researchers from around the world to UNCG.  We also host the annual Regional Mathematics and Statistics Conference, which attracts approximately 160 faculty, graduate students and undergraduates to UNCG. Additionally, several members of our faculty are editors-in-chief of internationally recognized journals in mathematics and statistics.  This vibrant environment allows students to interact with leading researchers from around the world.
