Austin Lawson successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled, “On the preservation of coarse properties over products and on persistence curves”. Austin was advised by Greg Bell. Congratulations to both Austin and Greg.

The Department successfully hosted the International Conference on Advances in Interdisciplinary Statistics and Combinatorics (AISC) October 5-7, 2018. There were 8 plenary talks, 122 other talks (25 of which were given by students) and 174 delegates. Congratulations to Sat Gupta and the members of the organizing committee for organizing a successful conference.

The Department was involved in hosting four excellent REU programs

The Department was involved in hosting four excellent REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) programs, namely, Math-Bio REU, Statistics REU, NREUP (National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program), and Number Theory REU at Elon University.
